Session 4 of the Advanced EHT Data Analysis Series

Webinar Overview:  Jason followed last week’s initial polarization webinar by expanding on the impact of density and temperature on the observed polarization from a magnetized plasma, walks through the process to developing schematic pictures representing observed polarization patterns resulting from idealized magnetic field geometries around a black hole, and discusses how the EHT Collaboration is applying these concepts to polarized images to draw physical inferences about the radiating plasma. Jason also describes the whisker lines from the EHT polarized M87 black hole image just released, discusses why magnetic fields are near black holes, and what we can expect to learn from polarized light. Q&A session follows the talk.
